90 Minutes of VIA 2010

If you didn’t get a chance to come to Villages in Action last November, here’s a 90-minute cut of the highlights from that day.

Watching this film brought back memories and really spurred a yearning to continue the VIA platform in it’s birth place. Since last November, several locations in East Africa have expressed interest in bringing the platform to their villages. From Kibera in Nairobi, to Gulu town in Northern Ugandan. We even did an exploratory round-table discussion about taking the microphone to PaP, Haiti.

We will continue to explore a viable, sustainable way to let others bring this very stage to their communities. We think it is important that village voices be heard. The microphone should be extended to the last mile. The stories in Kikuube, Gulu, PaP, and Kibera are just as important as the voices of authority in development at organizations like the World Bank and the UN; just as important as any media house in New York, London, and Paris.

There’s a lot going on in this 90-minute cut. There’s a lot to study and absorb. We hope that you will take the time out to grab a warm cup of tea or coffee, sit back, and hit the play button. The video is HD so make sure to run it full-screen. Above all, we want you to share it. We want you to discuss and critique it to your heart’s content. After all, we all learn through the exchange of ideas and dialogue, and constructive criticism.

Thanks to everyone that made VIA10 possible. Thanks to Business Fights Poverty, Orange Uganda, Project Diaspora, I Wear Your Shirt, Ethnic Supplies and the great support we got from the numerous individual donors. We hope that you can join us again in helping us take the next step of the VIA platform with your solid support.

Many thanks to Brian McDonald and his team for shooting the footage and Jon Shuler and team for the great editing. We couldn’t have done it without you.
